Im baaaaack! Hello everyone! It’s been a few weeks since we’ve written a blog. We have been so busy with the holidays, a huge family trip, my surgery, my uncle and brother leaving for bootcamp, etc.
During our last visit to Walt Disney World, Brock and I decided to have an afternoon to ourselves in Epcot. We had such a blast spending time together and trying new things, I knew that it was something worth sharing. Before we get into our topic for this blog, I’m back to give my unpopular and very concrete opinion, but what’s new?
Epcot has been deemed the “adult only” park for many years. People have this preconceived notion that the Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow is no place for children. If you think this is true, we can no longer be friends. Whoo… okay, glad that is off my chest.
I know that I just went on a tangent about how this park isn’t just for adults, and I may seem hypocritical writing a blog about this but, today I’m going to be talking about date nights (in this case date days) in Epcot.
It has been some time since I’ve had a Disney trip involving the Disney Dining Plan. Being an annual passholder, I am unable to take advantage of this offer that Disney provides other guests, since Disney will not let discounts to be stacked.
During our afternoon in Epcot, Brock and I wanted to try several different snacks from Festival of the Holidays, as well as use our quick-service credits for lunch. The only problem with this is becoming full too quickly. We wanted to make sure to use our allotted credits for the day, that way they did accumulate overtime and we would be pressed to use them on unnecessary things towards the end of our trip. So, we decided to make this a fun date day.
We used our snack credits and split each thing we had, and we did the same with our quick-service credits too. We would use one credit to get a single meal and split that meal. We did this in several countries. This allowed us to try several options in the park. As many of you know, Epcot is THE park for food. Do not, I repeat… DO NOT go to Epcot and eat chicken fingers, fries, hamburgers, etc. If you do, you might as well skip this park (which is a huge mistake). This park gives each guest the ultimate cultural culinary experience without even leaving the United States.
Now let’s get to the good part… what we ate! Keep in mind that we had two snack credits/person and 1 quick-service/person.
We didn’t decide to have our snacking date until we were in France. So, we didn’t have anything to eat from Canada, the UK or France (I did snag a few bites of my mom’s fish and chips before our expedition though… so good, a must try.)
First stop: Katsura Grill in the Japan Pavilion. Here is where we split teriyaki shrimp & chicken. Yes, this is common food, but it is so worth it. I absolutely love this dish. For a quick-service, it is a great portion size. With this meal you get several pieces of shrimp, chopped chicken, steamed white rice, and a salad… yummy!
Second stop: Lotus Blossom Café in the China Pavilion. Here we had chicken fried rice with an eggroll. Just like our meal in Japan, this was a great portion size! Let me just say, Lotus Blossom Café is where you will find the BEST eggroll (Chinese eggroll, of course… cheeseburger eggrolls aren’t in this category).
Third stop: Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe in Norway! If you know, you know. I shouldn’t even have to elaborate on this one. Two words… SCHOOL BREAD!!! School bread is a sweet roll filled with custard and dipped in coconut. If you haven’t had it, do yourself a favor and make your way to the Norway Pavilion during your next visit. Oh, and don’t forget to thank me afterwards. Side note: I did use another snack credit here for a coffee. Joffrey’s coffee is the best coffee and having a cup with your School Bread is an absolute must in my book.
Fourth stop (a flop): Shanghai Holiday Kitchen in between China and Mexico. We had our eyes on the Chengdu Spicy Street Fries. This new item was such a hit, it was unavailable at the time that we were there.
Fifth stop: Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen in Mexico. The Giant Tostada de Puerco is what we came here for! This Tostada features braised pork served on a giant tostada with chipotle black bean spread, guajillo sauce, queso fresco, crema Mexicana, pickled onion and topped with chicharron dust. AMAZING!!! If you know me, you know I am not a picky eater. There is one food I despise… beans. I was very apprehensive about ordering this as compared to the other menu items, but I will try anything once. This was a total hit with Brock and I (my mom and dad met us here and loved this snack as well!).
We use both quick-service credits and three out of four snack credits during our trip around the World (showcase, ha-ha!)
Brock and I loved spending the day enjoying each other’s company, as well as exploring each pavilion and what great experiences they had to offer. Whether we ate, shopped, sat down and enjoyed a drink, or just talked, we managed to venture into each country and take advantage of each of their unique experiences.
The World Showcase is one of my favorite places in all of Walt Disney World. I so wish that more people would give it, and Epcot as a whole, a chance. In my opinion, Epcot is a staple part of the Disney experience. We make sure to visit this park every time we are down. From a young age, Epcot has always been a place that I look forward to going and making more memories. I feel as is my knowledge is expanded each time I visit. There is always something new to see, do, or try! The possibilities here are endless.
If you haven’t been to Epcot, or maybe you have and you haven’t really experienced what it has to offer, make it a point to do so during your next trip. You won’t regret it! Walt Disney once said “the most exciting and by far the most important part of our Florida project – in fact, the heart of everything we’ll be doing in Disney World – will be our Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow! We call it EPCOT!”
