Let’s talk about one of the newest and certainly the creepiest new hidden jewels in Disney Springs, Gideon’s Bakehouse. I have been intrigued by this hauntingly goth-style bakery since whispers of it making its debut at Springs. And, how in the world did this creeptastic little get its start? Well, according to their website, here’s the chilling tale.

“In his never-ending search for baking inspiration, Steve Lewis, the bakery creator, purchased what he thought was an antique cookbook published in 1898. To his surprise, the margins were filled with faded notes and doodles from what appeared to be a young boy who had dreams of becoming a baker. The name written at the back of the book was “Gideon,” and Steve decided to fulfill that child’s wishes with the name Gideon’s Bakehouse™. Paying tribute to the origins of the name, Gideon’s shelves are lined with strange works of art, aging books, and curious antiquities from the Victorian era.”

Stepping into this beautifully strange little shop, you are overcome by the amazing smells, art, and collections of odd curiosities! Sketches on the walls, books upon books, and friendly staff make this dark bakery so inviting! Not to mention its famous 1/2 pound cookies and slices of cake that weigh a full 2 pounds!!!

I have tried Gideon’s cookies many times before and loved every flavor I’ve tried, so this visit I decided to choose one of those 2 slices of cake! Hazelnut Mocha Double Frosted to be exact! They suggest you keep these cakes cold and chill for at least 2 hours prior to eating! So, since I grabbed this cake later in the evening, the only logical course of action was to put it in the fridge and eat it for breakfast!

Cookie

Gideon’s has its staple cookie selections of cookie flavors led by its supremely perfected Classic Chocolate Chip! The rest of this line has Peanut Butter Crunch, Cookies and Cream, Candied Walnut Chocolate Chip (on Wednesdays only), Pistachio Toffee Chocolate Chip, and Triple Chocolate Chip, Gideon’s Bites, Coconut Caramel, Coffee Cake, and the Disney Spring’s exclusive, Dark Coffee Cake! These cookies are literally huge, soft, and delicious!!! Just to note, they also have specialty and seasonal cookie flavors that pop up from time to time….equally tempting!

Now we gotta talk about this cake!

The two-pound slices are big enough to share for sure, but let’s get real, do you want to??? The flavors are cakes are True Red Velvet, Daily Chocolate Cake which rotates in flavors, Double Frosted combination cakes, and IF you are in the know, you can ask for the Secret Slice. According to Gideon, this is the only way to obtain said secret cake.

Secret slice (random release)

This is a special item for those who know what’s up.  Follow us on Instagram and Facebook and watch out for posts about special super Secret Slices!  They are flavors completely off the menu when our bakers get to really explore. Once announced you’ll have to give us the special promoted password to obtain a slice.  It won’t be advertised in the shop. These are always extra limited so move fast! While Supplies Last! Limited 1 Per Customer.”

So I’d highly suggest signing up for the mailing list if you’re into being in on the super-secret flavors!

One thing to note, at times of heavy crowds, Gideon’s does have a virtual queue to obtain entrance! You’ll need to check with staff stationed outside for this! On my last visit, no virtual queue was necessary and the standby line to enter was a little less than 20 minutes! So if you have a craving for something sweet and strange in Disney Springs, Gideon’s Bakehouse is the undisputed answer! And keep in mind that with the size of these cakes and cookies, they are great for sharing and perfect to keep in your resort room for a breakfast treat or midnight snack while watching your favorite creepy show!
