One of my traveling rules is never to eat at chain restaurants. It’s always the goal to get a taste of something you can’t find at home. But, The CowFish is the exception to that rule. This restaurant has two locations in North Carolina as well as a spot at Universal CityWalk at Universal Orlando Resort. This burger and sushi bar calls the adventurous foodie as well as having kid-pleasing cuisine. Its casual and eclectic vibe has the perfect laid-back, fun atmosphere you’d expect being near a theme park, but the upscale food experience will surely impress.

The CowFish: Sushi Burger Bar…..has amazingly creative sushi combinations, mouthwatering burgers, fabulous cocktails, and milkshakes. What intrigued me about this place is when I heard they had burger sushi! I know what you’re thinking, but trust me, this is the thing! My absolute favorite part of this menu is The All-American Bacon Double Cheeseburgooshi! You read that correctly!

Seasoned premium black Angus beef, yellow cheddar cheese, white cheddar cheese, and applewood bacon wrapped in soy paper and potato strings then flash-fried. Topped with dill pickle, red onion, Roma tomato, served over our housemade Cowfish sauce, topped with ketchup and mustard. It’s the perfect fusion of flavors and presented just as sushi would be! So unique and so yummy! Now that you’re intrigued the Cheeseburgooshi is not the only fusion option. Other rolls have the filet, surf and turf, just to mention a few! During this visit, my kiddos tried The Taste Explosion Roll, a fusion of Certified Angus beef, applewood bacon rolled and coated with tempura flakes and topped with Roma tomatoes, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, then baked. Drizzled with spicy mayo cashew cilantro pesto.

Having visited several times, we’ve developed some favorite appetizers to get started with like edamame with chile salt, fried pickles with horseradish sauce, and the amazing crab Rangoon dip! Picture crab Rangoon filling, baked in a ramekin with a crunchy panko crust, served with fresh made wonton chips drizzled with a sweet and spicy siracha chile sauce! Next level! Again, I love the fusions and twists they add to some of my favorite dishes to make them so fun and interesting!

Next up, that sushi! Traditional and original sushi combos, sashimi and nigiri are highlights of the menu as well as Bento Boxes that allow you to combine the styles for a diverse mix of rolls! There is something for absolutely any sushi lover out there! This time, my husband had the Mark’s Roll which features fresh tuna, jalapeño, cream cheese, kani, scallions inside, coated with panko and flash fried. Topped with Japanese mayo and sriracha. Served with ponzu dipping sauce. And the kiddos also tried the Dion’s OMG! Roll with Tempura coconut shrimp, kani, English cucumber inside, coated in tempura flakes. Topped with fresh mango, avocado, honey marmalade sauce and coconut flakes.

The CowFish also features a selection of originally topped burgers and amazingly creative salads! And not to mention amazing cocktails and milkshakes to satisfy the sweet tooth’s out there!

Overall, The CowFish is the exception to my rule for many reasons! If you are looking for something creative, fun, and laid back, this is an amazing dinner to close out your day at Universal Orlando Resort! You can make reservations in advance and they are certainly recommended because of their popularity! Don’t leave this off your dining requests when we are planning your visit!
