Cruising – The one stop shop to see lots of places
Vacay season is in full swing. And there are so many options to choose from. So narrowing things down may not be the easiest task. You may be used to that typical beach visit, but you are wanting a bit more adventure. May I present, sailing the seven seas on a cruise! There are so many reasons to love cruising….I’m going to dive into just a few.
Cruising. The one stop shop to see lots of places in a short amount of time. I find cruising works if you can’t decide exactly what destination you want to see, but can narrow it down to a general itinerary. You’ll get the chance to experience lots of cultures and ports of call without being committed to one location. Many times this is super appealing to folks! Lot’s to see and do.
What’s included in your cruise? While there are some various in specific cruise lines, it is understood that meals, snacks, room service, basic drinks and various onboard activities are included in your cruise fare. This is a great value especially if you are feeding an entire family! There are options to upgrade to specialty drinks and/or dining for an extra fee but these things are not necessary add ons to make a successful cruise! Cruising can give you that extra bit of relaxation because of the added bonus of minimal expense once you board your ship. You also have the option to pre-purchase drink packages prior to boarding at a reduced cost even furthering that most everything included feel of being on the cruise.
What’s not included? You can always add icing to your cruising cake so to speak. You can take advantage of scheduling excursions at your ports, spa services, games, or specialty entertainment. Alcohol, as I mentioned before can be included in your cruise if you pre purchase a package to utilize during your sailing! Tips for your hosts, wait staff, etc can also be added ahead of time but not typically included in the basic cruise fare.
Cruising gives you the option of being a fast paced, adventurous vacation that is action packed or you can choose to make it relaxing and low key. It’s really in the power of you and your travel party. This makes for a great vacation type for lots of age levels or multigenerational families to do together because of the various
activities and opportunities that you have with the respective cruise line of your choice!
If you are new to cruising, this is my best advice. Do not jump into a 7 night or longer sailing. It’s always a plus if you can try out a shorter cruise and see if it’s easy for you to “get those sea legs” or if the life of a pirate is not for you and your family. Also, when considering your room type, my rule of thumb is, you will always crave
more space if you go with an inside room. Even if you go with Oceanview, the extra breathing room of even just a window is a complete game changer. Another tip from my arsenal is related to sea sickness. While not typical, this can happen. But, there are times that you can sail where the weather is more cooperative and the occasion to get sea sick would be super minimal. So carefully planning out your sailing dates is key!
