There are four moderate resorts on Disney property and when you think
of these, most folks gravitate to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
these days because of the skyline option. And while that is nothing
short of amazing, I would love to talk about a moderate resort that
has recently stolen my heart and I truly believe it doesn’t get its
just dues! And that resort is Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter.
The smallest of the four moderate resorts on property with, in my
opinion, the biggest flair, French Quarter is the sleeper moderate you
didn’t know you needed to experience! You may be thinking that being a
small resort is a drawback, but I beg to differ. If you have ever
stayed at some of the other more spread out value or moderate resorts,
you’ll understand exactly why small is where it’s at! Smaller is an
advantage, making most room locations close to transportation (bus and
boat), food, shopping, swimming, and guest services!
French Quarter has an amazing Mardi Gras themed pool, Doubloon Lagoon,
surrounded by artwork inspired by the Big Easy! So colorful and fun
and a splash zone and slides for big and little kids alike. You are
also able to use the main pool, Ol’ Man Island at Port Orleans
Riverside, which is just a short walk away! A huge laundry facility is
also located in the pool area which is super convenient. Mardi Grogs
Pool Bar is also a convenient place for spirits and snacks while
enjoying some time at the pool. Although, the amazing quick service
options are not far away from this area at all!
Like other moderate resorts, French Quarter has a large quick service
area with several stations offering lots of choices. Sassagoula
Floatworks and Food Factory is the place for food! From pizza to
pasta, BBQ to burgers, there’s a great choice for everyone here! Oh,
and let’s not forget to mention the gumbo and Jambalaya!! BUT, my
absolute favorite feature is tucked away to the side of Sassagoula at
Scat Cat Club Cafe! Why, you may ask…..well, one word, BEIGNETS! Made
fresh to order with authentic Cafe Au Lait or Cappuccino, this is the
perfect stop to make every time you exit the lobby! There is also a
Scat Cat Lounge which offers jazz from time to time and a
wonderful menu of light bites and amazing cocktails!
Another feature that I adore about this property is the staff! The
ladies at Scat Cat Cafe are amazing at suggesting pairings for your
beignets and offer great conversation and Steve, the greeter was one
of the warmest cast members I’ve ever met! These folks definitely make
me want to come back again and again. Statues, art, the vibe, the
staff, the size, and overall quaintness of Port Orleans French Quarter
is completely unparalleled. If it is not on your radar for your next
visit, and you are looking for a moderate price with an amazing feel,
you may just be missing out! I definitely left a piece of my heart at
French Quarter and I cannot wait to be back!
