This weekend the filmed version of Broadway original Hamilton debuted on Disney+. I have always loved the theater and it was a dream of mine to see this show with the original cast. My brother introduced me to the soundtrack over 5 years ago and I was hooked. It was only appropriate that we have a 2-day watch- party for the release of this amazing show. Don’t you wish you were in the room where it happened?
Night one was Broadway themed. We partied like it was 1776! (Just kidding, we were in bed by 10 P.M.) The menu (pictured below) was themed after characters that are depicted by the amazing original cast in the film. I designed the menu and the cards labeled for the different foods we prepared to jazz things up a bit. I grabbed a few decorations from Walmart, it wasn’t anything extravagant, but we had a lot of fun.
Night two happened to fall on the Fourth of July. I re-decorated our house and we prepared for out patriotic dinner. My dad made the BEST ham, my mom fixed some awesome sides, and I made a killer apple crumble (if I do say so myself.)
Although this party didn’t consist of many people, only the four of us, (night one) and the six of us (night two) had an absolute blast.
The themed food and decorations added an extra pizzazz and made release day a little more special. We had a great Fourth of July weekend; it was one I will never forget. I am so glad this was added to Disney+. I was finally able to see the original cast perform this incredible show (with an amazing “front-row” seat). It exceeded all of my expectations.
Hamilton Review:
Lin-Manuel Miranda is a genius. I was in awe throughout the entirety of the show. I have always been the type to sing along if I know the words to the song. I can recite the Hamilton soundtrack beginning to end… I didn’t so much as sing “How does a bastard, orphan…”. I was awestruck by this production.
This list sums up my thoughts:
• Jonathan Groff was absolute perfection.
• I don’t think there is a better trio than Anthony Ramos, Okieriete Onaodowan, and Daveed Diggs
•Phillipa Soo, Renee Goldsberry and Jasmine Jones can all sing their butts off.
•Christopher Jackson has the voice of an angel and was my favorite.
•Leslie Odom Jr. is LEGIT.
•Non-Stop is now my favorite song on the album now that I have seen it preformed.
