Disney’s Haunted Mansion I needed to see if this newest take on the classic would live up to my all time love for this story and the rides!
Last week I headed to the premiere of Disney’s Haunted Mansion to see if this newest take on the classic would live up to my all time love for this story and the rides! Knowing this movie has been made with several versions up till this point, I was super curious on what twist this version would take and how Disney could breathe new life into this creepy tale!
First of all, to acknowledge all the previous versions of Haunted Mansion, I can honestly say that up to this point, every time Disney has tried its spin on it, it has always been a homer in my opinion.
And I am not just saying this because it’s my all time favorite ride, story, etc., or because it’s a Disney film. Trust me, there have been a few flops in my eyes too in the Disney film category. But it always pleasantly surprised me how they can make this iconic mansion into so many different creepy tales, like campfire stories on steroids so to speak and never make a miss.

This cast tho! How does it get any more iconic in a “scary movie” to have Jamie Lee Curtis in the house? It just doesn’t. And her gracing us with her version of Madame Leota…impeccable! The standout to me in
this cast was definitely Tiffany Haddish. She really put the comedy in overdrive and really set the tone. Not to mention Danny Devito with his usual antics. This was an outstanding comedic combo. But, Owen Wilson…is the cherry on top of this creeptastic sundae for sure. I literally laughed until I cried. Cameos by Dan Levy and Winona Ryder were the perfect addition as well. LaKeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, and Chase Dillon were solid leads but my friend, Jared Leto as the infamous Hatbox Ghost was pure genius! The gothically haunting voice, the cold as ice manipulation, he was evil….in a hat box! Perfection!
I will not give up the story line or any spoilers of course, well,
because I can’t deal when folks do that so I’ll just sum this film up
by saying, I completely loved how this brought Haunted Mansion from
Disneyland Park completely to life. The imagination of the ride was
most perfectly translated to screen in. Nods to all your favorite
Disney haunts with hints and moments of backstories that we probably
all wonder about after leaving the ride itself. I was extremely happy
this movie kept it light with it’s spooky storyline and brought a
seriously positive message at its conclusion. There was no taking it
too far, there were no politics, no controversy, just fantastic Disney
storytelling like old times. I could watch it 999 happy times and
still have room for watch number 1000!
