Comparing the Ultimate Halloween Parties: Oogie Boogie Bash vs. Mickey's Not So Scary – A Spooky Showdown!
Last week, I got to attend one of the most amazing parties on my bucket list…..the Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure Park. Since its creation I have wanted to snag a spot at this event and I’m telling you, it did not disappoint! I had heard many people say it was very similar to the east coast’s Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, BUT after experiencing it firsthand, I must strongly disagree with that. And I am going to explain just why I think OBB is the polar opposite of MNSSHP in so many ways!

One of the most glaring differences in these two special Halloween events is the way they approach Trick or Treat. If you’ve experienced Not so Scary, you know that trick or treat stations are marked throughout the park and manned by cast members in those adorable outfits. You can load up all night with loads and loads of candy. But at Oogie Boogie, not only do they have loads of treat trails with TONS of candy, but at the end of these trails (which are continuously moving), you will find some of your favorite and sometimes even rare villains! This two birds with one stone approach was absolutely amazing for maximizing your time during the party! I can safely say that I have never got to encounter as many characters during a special ticketed event as I did at OBB this year!

Much like MNSSHP, Oogie has two opportunities to catch its special parade. I most definitely suggest seeing the last showing of the parade. We watched from Paradise Pier and had a wonderful viewing spot. The parade for Oogie is much shorter than its counterpart on the east coast but still packed with amazing floats and heavy on the villains as you would expect. My favorite part of this Mickey’s Frightfully Fun Parade is most definitely the Mayor from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas! I will say, while I loved this parade, the award for most catchy Halloween song cannot be taken away from Boo to You! And now I know you have it stuck in your head! You’re welcome!

Another big difference I notice with Oogie is that Disney California Adventure Park is heavy on the Halloween decor for this event but also for regular park hours. I know in the east we love our Mickey pumpkins, and I am not hating on them one bit. But, the extra touches of lights, projections, theming in Carsland, Villains Grove, Guardians overlay and so much more completely immerses you in spooky season feelings every which way you turn and I am certainly not mad about it! If there is one thing Disney does best is giving you all the feels and Oogie Boogie Bash is no exception. Layer upon layer of Halloweentime love spread throughout the park made this event even more special!

Villains Grove was one more feature of this party that had intrigued me forever! This is definitely a different experience than I was used to at Not So Scary! They have totally taken over the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and transformed it into a magical and enchanted grove full of the essence of villains at every turn. This walk thru was delightfully surprising and an adventure of sights, smells, and emotions! I would love to see something similar at a Not So Scary party. I think this was DCA’s take on a “stage show” and I love the concept!
