This weekend we had a travel experience of a local sort and so very
glad we did! Gary and I spent this weekend touring and learning about
our very own, America’s resort, The Greenbrier in White Sulphur
Springs, West Virginia. And while it would be impossible to share it
all in one blog, I wanted to share my overall thoughts on this
designated National Historic Landmark and a bit of the charm and
hospitality it has to offer!
This stunning and character-filled establishment began welcoming
guests back in 1778! It has played host to presidents, royalty, and
celebrities and was even used during WWII as a hospital. And one of
the most intriguing facts about The Greenbrier’s history is that
during the Cold War, there was actually a U.S. Government relocation
bunker secretly built on the property, which you can now tour during
your stay! ($40 per adult, $20 per child)
The hotel itself has traditional-style guest rooms, suites, specialty
suites, cottages, estate homes, and more. Most are classically
decorated with period-style furnishings and the trademark Dorothy
Draper decor. Charming and eclectic, from cozy to elaborate, there is
a space for everyone with the accommodations at the property.
There is also no shortage of activities, offerings, culinary
experiences, and more to experience during your stay here at The
Greenbrier. Onsite activities include options like bowling,
indoor/outdoor pools, horseback riding, guided hiking, carriage rides
and so much more! Also accessible are tons of other seasonal outdoor
activities like skeet shooting, sporting clays, guided fly fishing,
canopy tours, mountain biking, paddle boarding, white water rafting
and so much more. And with West Virginia’s distinct four seasons, the
backdrop for all these offerings is nothing short of stunning all
throughout the year.
Along with all of their on and off-site offerings, The Greenbrier boasts
amazing children’s programs in the Adventure Zone. Highly trained
staff offer hosts of fun projects, activities, and games for children
3-12 several sessions through the day.
And while those kiddos are enjoying their time in the kids club
programs, mom and dad can take advantage of The Greenbrier’s excellent
high-end shopping, golf, the spa, or stunning and smoke-free Casino
Club. I’ll be the first to say shopping is like no other. Perfect
specialty and locally owned unique boutiques line several of the
hallways and have no shortage of eclectic and unique offerings. For
the golfers in your family, the Meadows course is a fun and exciting
challenge for all skill levels, as well as private instruction at the
Greenbrier Golf Academy! And when it is time to unwind, schedule the
ultimate relaxation at one of the top-rated spas in the United States, The
Greenbrier Spa! With 42 treatment rooms and so many services to choose
from, you’ll never leave with a kink in your neck!
As I mentioned, it is completely impossible for me to give you every
immaculate detail of my experience here at The Greenbrier this
weekend. So, that being said, I will be doing a series intermittently
in my blogs highlighting so many of the amazing offerings and
experiences to be had. I look forward to sharing more with you in the
coming weeks and I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into America’s
Resort in my very own backyard!
