Although it’s Scheduled to open on April 4, 2023, TRON Lightcycle / Run will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world, I was lucky enough to preview this ride this week!
So if you’ve been wondering about that change in the skyline at Magic Kingdom Park, Tron is the reason! If you’re not familiar with Tron, here’s what the Disney Park Blog has to say about the vision of this newest attraction at Walt Disney World Resort.
“From the Big Screen to the Theme Park
In 1982, Disney made filmmaking history with TRON, the first production of its kind to mix live action with computer-generated visuals and backlit animation. This iconic film went on to inspire video games, comic books, an animated series, and the 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy—as well as this new Disney theme park attraction.” – Disney Parks Blog
For starters, my impression is…..this ride and its queue are enormous! A fair walk is located in the area between Tomorrowland Speedway and the iconic Space Mountain. For what it’s worth, this attraction does fit into the general theming of Tomorrowland, I sorta wish this big guy would have been built in Epcot. Although, having two heavy hitter attractions in long-neglected Epcot may not be the best thinking…I hate change, especially at Magic Kingdom.
The pre-show people…..short, sweet, and done! No offense to those that love a good riveting Disney pre-show, but lord have mercy I think we suffer thru enough of those to last us a lifetime. You can expect one room where you are “digitized” to fit into the grid! Then the scenery itself takes charge. So you don’t have to, “Uh……..fly.”
The ride vehicles are definitely different, but I was pleasantly surprised that they didn’t live up to the descriptions I’d heard about them being uncomfortable. They are much like the general feel of the seating for Flight of Passage but wider, smoother, and a bit more forward-leaning. I didn’t find the restraints to be constricting or as rigid as Flight.
The ride itself is stunning and super smooth. Thrilling? Absolutely. And visually stunning, without a doubt. But, here’s where my mean Disney adult side must rear its head in the form of brutal honesty……y’all made us wait all these many years for 60 seconds. Don’t get me wrong, Magic needed some serious thrills, but to be fair, can we ride twice in a row?
Do I think Tron is a good addition to the Disney attraction resume? Of course. I am definitely not a hater. But we really need this amazing, long-awaited piece of construction to let us scream, yell, and whooo hooo for at least a minute or so more! Good luck on your adventure in the grid!!
